What is better plastic or metal straws?

What is better plastic or metal straws?

We’ve also seen how bad plastic straws can be for our environment let alone plastic. its getting costly to recycle the plastic nowadays also note that other countries that are good at recycling plastic have stopped taking in other countries plastic for recycling for example China and Indonesia. It has become a growing concern for every developed nation to tackle the plastic waste problem.

you may ask What's so bad about plastic straws? They're so small, they must be so insignificant in the grand scheme of things."

Plastic straws represent our throwaway culture, which developed over the past 50 years or so,” Goldstein says. “They’re a first-class litter and pollution problem.” One needs only to look at the waves of plastic garbage washing up on the shores of the Dominican Republic this summer for proof.

Negative effects of plastic straws can be avoided if we decided to use metal straws. They’re more eco-friendly, more durable, and have a better aesthetic value. Most of the metal drinking straws in the market are made of food grad materials.

Following are some of the reasons that will help you choose metal straws over plastic straws.

  • Metal or stainless steel straws are reusable but plastic straws are mostly single use.

Metal drinking straws are made from food grade stainless steel. We all know that stainless steel more durable and than plastic straws. Don't think that plastic straws lasts longer than metal straws just because plastic doesn't degrade for thousands of years, its only the plastic that takes long time to degrade but the straws itself doesn't have a long life. Plastic straws can be used again for not for drinking as they are particularly not easy to clean. On the other hand a metal sip straw can be used for countless times.

  • Metal straws are eco-friendly and plastic straws aren’t

Stainless steel metal straws are safe to use and does not have a negative impact on the environment while the single use straws are used once and discarded adding to the current plastic pollution. Plastic straws are mistaken for food by sea creatures such as Turtle and Dolphins who choke on them and die. Plastic straws cause a major damage to our oceans and marine life. Stainless steel straws are degradable and have a higher return when recycled which also works as an incentive to recycle them.

  • Metal straws are BPA free and plastic straws are not

Metal Straws are made from food grade stainless steel while the plastic straws are made from low quality PP which is not always BPA free. BPA stands for bis-phenol A. BPA is an industrial chemical that has been used to make certain plastics and resins since the 1960s. BPA can cause your body hormones to duplicate and in long term it can cause health issues.

  • Metal straws are easy to clean and plastic straws are not easy to clean

Reusable metal straws are easy to clean, most of the reusable drinking straws available in the market are dishwasher safe. Some of the metal straws available in the market comes with a cleaning brush which makes it easier to clean the straws. Comparing to straws made from silicone and bamboo to stainless steel straws, we found that stainless steel straws are longer lasting than the other two silicone and bamboo straws. Plastic straws on the other hand are not easy to clean due to low quality material used which makes it nearly impossible to clean without wasting too much water also note that plastic straws are not dishwasher friendly either.
